A Series of interviews with Active Grand Photos Volunteers

Sue Anthony is the 2024-2026 Photo Club Treasurer

Sue Anthony MHW12386When/how did your interest in photography begin?
When I saw a class being offered in the Photo Club on “How to take pictures with a cell phone,” I signed up!  As a result of taking Margaret Ann Coles class, I joined the club 2 years ago.   I was interested in all the opportunities to learn more about taking pictures and editing them.

How did you arrive at Grand?
For 3 winters I visited a friend who owns a home in Grand as well as in Iowa, my home state.  When visiting her in 2017, I became interested in looking and buying a home there.  I loved the idea of not having to spend my winters in Iowa’s cold weather as opposed to spending them in The Grand and enjoying the Arizona sunshine all winter.  Besides the photo club, I enjoy playing golf, and making friends from other parts of the country.

What do you enjoy about Grand Photo Club?Sue Anthony - 2
I enjoy getting to know members of the photo club. I’m impressed with the creativity and I’m hoping it will inspire creativity in me. In addition, my position as Treasurer gives me a feeling of purpose as it lets me contribute to the club.

How did you find yourself in a volunteer role?
When I became aware that a treasurer position was needed in the club, I decided to offer myself as a candidate.  I have owned my own business in the past and thought I could help with my knowledge about keeping records.  I owned a reinforcing steel company in Des Moines and Wilton, Iowa with another female.  Our company fabricated reinforcing steel for high rises in the Des Moines area and provided steel for highway construction throughout the Midwest.  After talking with the previous treasurer, Angela Robinson, I felt I could handle the position.

Sue Anthony - 3What is it about photography that has maintained your interest?
The time commitment of being treasurer of the Photo Club has decreased my involvement with photography. But I very much like meeting people and I enjoy the social aspect.  If I learn to take better pictures along the way, it’s icing on the cake.

What are your favorite things to photograph?
As of now, most of my pictures seem to be of my family and their activities, especially the grandchildren.  I am also taking pictures of different flowers as I want to take the note card class and make my own notecards to send or gift.
